Once Upon a Child’s Dream

Once upon a child’s dream

To show its face again

The third decade into life

A nighttime resurrection

I try to grasp the ball on the sides

But my arms won’t reach that wide

The distant vision feels so close

I run but it just hides

A Monet in slumber taunts me now

As if I were a babe

A growing sense of familiarity

Inside my blanket cave

Deja vu perhaps this is

A less than cheerful sleep

I am not angry nor feel sad

I do not wake to weep

Confused, I’d say, this dream I’ve had

Many nights that passed

I’d bet a dime another time

But certainly not the last
